See Trump's approval rating amid drama with Congress over Iran, affordability

President Donald Trump is seemingly at odds with a Republican-controlled Senate.

On June 23, the Senate passed a symbolic war powers resolution, following the House of Representatives in signaling support for the end of the war in Iran. Also on June 23, Congress passed a housing affordability bill in a rare bipartisan moment. Trump was scheduled to sign the bill on June 24, but canceled, saying it wouldn't happen until the voter ID requirement bill, the SAVE America Act, passed.

Meanwhile, the cost of living has been a major sticking point for voters. Polls have shown for months that Trump's approval on inflation and the economy have been his worst issues. Trump has said the war in Iran would be worth the costs, but polls out this week show a majority of voters are unlikely to agree. Low approval ratings could also spell more trouble for Republicans in the midterm elections this year, which is largely considered a referendum on the presidency. See Trump's recent approval rating polls:

What is Trump's approval rating?

Trump's approval rating has been net negative for more than a year and has been fluctuating but trending more negative over the past several months. Here is Trump's average approval rating as of June 24, according to aggregators:

  • RealClearPolitics Poll Average: 40.4% approve, 57.6% disapprove
  • New York Times: 38% approve, 58% disapprove
  • Silver Bulletin: 38.7% approve, 58.5% disapprove

Poll shows Trump approval at 30%, career low

Trump's approval rating has dropped to a new low in a recent American Research Group poll, with just 30% of Americans approving of his job performance as the 2026 midterm elections approach.

The survey, conducted June 16-20 among 1,100 respondents (with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points), found 66% disapprove of Trump, the highest disapproval and lowest approval ever recorded by the pollster during either of his presidencies.

Among those who disapprove of Trump, economic pessimism is widespread: 82% say they expect conditions to worsen over the next year, according to the poll.

Reuters/Ipsos: Trump at 34% approval tied at low for 2nd term

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll published June 23 shows Trump's approval rating has dipped to 34%, similar to April's rating, which was the lowest level of the president's second term. The 2 percentage-point decline from Trump's 36% approval earlier this month is within the poll's 3-point margin of error. Trump began his second term with a 47% approval rating in the outlets' polling.

It also found that a majority of Americans think it's unlikely that the preliminary agreement between the U.S. and Iran will lead to lasting peace between the two countries.

About 63% of Americans don't believe that the deal Trump signed will bring peace, the June 23 poll of 1,268 Americans found. About half of Republicans and eight in 10 Democrats polled between June 18-22 said the deal was unlikely to deliver peace.

The poll found that just 18% of Americans – including 10% of Democrats and 34% of Republicans – view lasting peace as likely.

One in four Americans polled believe Trump's war with Iran was worth the expense, and 52% polled say it has not been worth the costs for the U.S. to take military action in Iran, similar to a May Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted before the countries' signed agreement.

CBS/YouGov: Iran war caused more problems than it solved

The majority of respondents of a CBS News/YouGov poll released June 21 believe the war in Iran created more problems than it solved.

In the poll conducted among 2,519 U.S. adults from June 17-19, 57% believed the war created more problems than it solved, compared to 21% who thought the opposite, and another 21% who responded "neither." The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.

The poll also found 78% of Americans thought the U.S. should end the conflict now, versus 22% who thought the U.S. should continue until Iran gives up more. That majority includes 60% of Republicans and 56% of MAGA Republicans who agree the U.S. should end the war now. The first round of Iranian peace talks ended in Switzerland on June 22, and the parties said they agreed on a roadmap to reach a final deal within 60 days.

The CBS News/YouGov poll found 38% approve of Trump's job performance, up slightly from May's poll. The uptick was helped by non-college White Americans who believe the gas prices will fall, CBS News reported.
