University Place: We might as well disband city
Last spring, residents in University Place voted overwhelmingly to turn down new taxes for a separate park district. Now it’s too late to save our senior center and youth sports programs.
As a result, as of Jan. 1, though the parks department will continue, the recreation programs and senior center will be cut and some employees have been offered positions in other departments. Kids will walk the streets and seniors will no longer have a place to go.
I recommend that we disband the City of University Place and be annexed by Tacoma. We’ll save money by firing the mayor and City Council, join Tacoma City Police and Fire Department, Metro Parks, garbage collection and any other department the city now has.
When you live in a community, you have to pay for services; they’re not free. It’s not an easy decision, just the way it is. Shame on us!
