Legislature: Thomas a good fit for 29th District
Re: “Sawyer, Kirby in District 29; Darneille in 27th,” (TNT, 9/14).
I couldn’t help but detect a bit of bias in your endorsement concerning 29th Legislative District candidates David Sawyer and Rick Thomas.
First, you failed to mention the ugly personal attacks that were part of the primary campaign between Democratic candidates Sawyer and Branden Durst, or Durst’s endorsement of Independent Republican Rick Thomas as a candidate who understands decency and civility.
Secondly, you rendered a very transparent critique of Thomas by writing that he “could be a credible candidate, after he spends more time in the district and gains greater command of the issues.” This despite the fact that he has lived in the district for as long as the incumbent and, as importantly, that during his 30-year Special Forces career he’s had enormous experience managing issues as weighty as those faced by the Legislature.
The good news is that there are many readers, like me, who know to take such endorsements with a grain of salt.
