Police: Why not shoot to disable more often?
I, like so many, am perplexed as to why the police cannot shoot to disable rather than to kill. In the recent Tulsa shooting, the police officer was close enough to hit the suspect in virtually any part of his body. A shot to the femur or hip will absolutely put any person down. He/she will be in such pain that any resistance will be almost impossible.
If such were done, the needs of the law would be met and a life would not have been taken. And from a purely economic point of view, Tulsa, in this case, will have avoided a multimillion dollar lawsuit.
If an officer cannot hit a 3 to 4-inch target at 20 feet or less, they should not be entrusted with a deadly weapon.
