Election: Trump sniffs at idea of truth-telling
Should I believe my lying eyes and ears, or Donald Trump? Watching the presidential debate Monday night, I heard and observed numerous sniffs from Trump as he spoke. I found them a bit startling in volume and number.
Someone else, perhaps even more than 81 million debate listeners, apparently saw and heard those sniffs because Trump was questioned about them on Fox News this morning. Trump said, “no sniffs” and suggested that it was maybe the microphone, and again insisted, “no sniffs.”
Trump has said on more than one occasion that he will do whatever he has to do to win, first in the primary and now in the general election. Said more eloquently by Mark Twain in “Pudd’nhead Wilson” (1894): “Tell the truth or trump - but get the trick.”
Trump has repeatedly shown no propensity to tell the truth. I am definitely going with my lying eyes and ears, and will vote and hope mightily that the Trump doesn’t get the trick.
