Community: Proposal: cemetery makes fine place to get engaged

This weekend I had the honor of attending a very special wedding proposal. This wasn’t your usual proposal, this took place at the Sumner Cemetery.

My friend, Kristi Gisti, is a 4th grade teacher in Puyallup; she is 48 years old and has never been married. Her boyfriend of six years, Joe Barnes of Bonney Lake, decided to surprise Kristi by taking her down to the Sumner Cemetery where both her mother and father are buried. He collaborated with all of her friends to be part of the special event.

Kristi was under the impression that they were just going to put fresh flowers on her parents’ graves, but while she was leaning down to put flowers in a vase, all her friends gathered behind her with smiles and cameras.

When she turned around she was startled; she didn’t know what was going on.

When she turned back to look at her boyfriend, he was on one knee with the wedding ring in his hand.

There wasn’t a dry eye.

It’s never too late to ask a father for his marriage blessing.
