Election: Too much at stake to hold back endorsement

Re; “No endorsements for you: Thurston Democrats put Heck and Murray on notice over TPP” (TNT, 10/11).

With the greatest of respect for Thurston County Democrats, now is not the time to teach Democrats in office, especially those who represent the State of Washington in Washington D.C., a lesson by not endorsing them.

As an African American I’m totally disappointed in some of our state officials in Washington D. C and Olympia. They come to the African American communities asking for a list of our concerns and once they are in office, not only do we not see them until the next election, but that list has made zero progress. At some point we will not endorse some of them so that they may begin to take the plight of African Americans and others seriously.

But now is not the time to teach them a lesson by not endorsing them; there is too much at stake to not have as many Democrats in Washington D. C. as possible. The potential to appoint two Supreme Court Justices is huge and cannot be ignored or taken lightly.

Civil rights, social justice, economic equality and so much more are at stake. Let’s unite this election with these thoughts in mind, knowing we will see those lame duck Democrats in the very near future.
