CLICK: TPU customers should support fiber optic system

Re: “City Council goes ‘all-in’ with other people’s money” (TNT editorial, 11/20)

Your editorial failed to mention the Tacoma Public Utilities fiber optic system was originally installed for the remote operational control and remote metering of the electrical system. CLICK was an added extra use of the fiber optic system. The fiber optic system was never installed solely or principally for the use of CLICK. Nor should its maintenance and expansion costs be solely borne by CLICK customers.

This is a co-mingled system. Its principle purpose is to enhance the electrical system’s reliability. So why shouldn’t TPU customers support the fiber optic system that helps with the kind of reliability that all the electrical customers have come to expect?
