Arts: Broadway Center does Tacoma proud

Re: “Parting with Nutcracker is sweet sorrow,” (TNT editorial, 11/15).

The Tacoma City Ballet’s decision to move its full-length production of “The Nutcracker” out of Tacoma is just as the headline reflects. The sorrow is that we won’t have the full production in Tacoma, only a “teaser.” The sweetness is the growth and vibrancy of the arts in our city that has created increased demand for space in our downtown theaters. It is exciting to watch this growth.

The Broadway Center for the Performing Arts is an incredible resource to our city. As a community partner, I have found the executive director, board of directors and staff eager to work collaboratively for the good of the community.

A strong arts scene has a positive impact on the city economy. I believe strong performing arts are good for the “soul” of a community. The Broadway Center staff and board works hard to nurture and grow the art scene at the heart of our city. I admire their integrity and commitment as they balance local arts organizations, national touring performances and local education programs.

The Broadway Center is one of the reasons it is so good to be in Tacoma.
