Eatonville: Help needed to preserve historic house
Re: “This old house might become a museum,” (TNT, 11/19).
Thank you for covering the recent move, by the South Pierce County Historical Society, of the Tofu House across town in Eatonville.
This building holds important evidence of a bygone era that can now be shared. The Tofu House symbolizes early Eatonville’s Japanese-American citizens. It will help tell their story, and the town’s as well.
We also thank individual donors and organizations that have gotten us this far in preserving the 110-year-old building, including the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, the Ben B. Cheney Foundation and The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation.
We still seek funding to repair and restore the Tofu House, and install interpretive exhibits. A time capsule is also planned. Please visit our “Save the Tofu House” campaign page at www.gofundme.com/2m9d9rzu. Donations can also be mailed to: Save the Tofu House, PO Box 1966, Eatonville WA 98328
