Click funding: Who's afraid of a little vote?
Re: “City Council goes ‘all-in’ with other people’s money” (TNT editorial, 11/20)
Congratulations to the editorial board. I’ve never read a more succinct description of the difficulty in relying on elected officials as when you wrote, “Trusting a city bureaucracy to get it right — against all legal advice, before getting any expert advice and willfully rejecting any experienced business partners — seems reckless, irresponsible and arrogant.”
I also applaud your observation that the actions of the City Council and their vote to fund Click through TPU rates stinks (my word not yours). The whole thing is buried as part of a larger budget vote thereby avoiding all accountability.
If public funding of Click is such a good idea, let’s get each council member to vote up or down on the specific issue of getting ratepayers involved in blindly investing in a rapidly evolving and cash hungry technology. At least we’ll be able to hold them accountable.
