Climate change: Election protests are totally warranted
Re: “Election protests more than just a tantrum”, (TNT letter, 12/8).
The writer correctly articulated why there is such a public backlash to Donald Trump’s election for numerous reasons. As an environmental activist, I’m gravely concerned about the direction Trump plans to take us, unraveling everything that President Obama has done to help curb climate change based on science.
Make no mistake, Trump has just chosen unequivocal climate change deniers like himself to head the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency. These appointees will do everything possible to increase fossil fuel production in this country.
Trump said he will tear up the recent Paris Agreement that Obama and 192 other leaders around the world signed. This agreement set greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for each country.
So Trump can expect a rising tide, pun intended, of protests around our country demanding to keep the U.S. on track to meet those reduction targets and to promote clean renewable energy development, such as solar and wind, to save our planet for future generations.
Science has clearly shown us we must act on climate change now. Science is not a dirty word!
