Homelessness: Funny how it's suddenly a crisis now

Major stories in the The News Tribune shining the light on homelessness while the past administration was in national office were practically non-existent. Sure, a story on the back pages, but no crisis.

Why a crisis now? Could it be because a new administration won the election? The Obama administration didn’t flex its combined muscle to solve or alleviate the situation in cities across the country.

I’m sure if we asked our representatives, they would all have a story detailing how hard they have tried to help, but the other party always blocked their efforts.

Tent cities are not the answer. Housing people in less than humane conditions solves nothing. A tent is better than a box under a bridge, but not much better.

It’s time to dive into these problems, separate families out and put them in real housing that would foster a true family life. Separate those on drugs between the helpless and the clueless, and help those who actually want to change their destinies in the City of Destiny.
