War hero: Take stroll in DuPont, and meditate
Re: “Medal of Honor hero from DuPont dies at 94,” (TNT, 5/13).
My thoughts turn to the charming little town just down the road from Tacoma: DuPont, where they manufactured dynamite by the trainload from 1909 to 1976.
In fact, just behind the DuPont History Museum sits “the last intact Dynamite Train in the State of Washington,” as described in a brochure I picked up at the museum.
So if you visit DuPont, by all means stop by the wonderful museum there and learn about some of the fascinating, explosive history of our area.
But then don’t run off right away. Tarry a while longer and wander over to the nearby nature trail. It’s named after Wilburn Kirby Ross.
Who was he? I recommend you read the well written article referenced above, then take a nice, slow walk along that peaceful path – and just think about it.
