GOP: Ousting Trump shouldn't be this hard

According to the New York Times and other sources, sober conservatives and liberals now consider using the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office. This cannot be done without Republican members of Congress, and thus it is problematic.

In the 2010 census, Republicans redistricted the states they controlled so that their base could reliably deliver congressional seats. This base includes some of the darkest parts of our consciousness. It wasn’t happenstance that Klan members, Neo-Nazis and white supremacists supported Trump.

Consequently, in low turnout elections this base, which regards news of potential high crimes by the president to be fake, endangers Republicans who thwart it.

In the face of perhaps the most serious existential threat to the U.S. since Pearl Harbor, Republicans now pause, weighing their shrinking ability to pursue their agenda against their duty to country.

The outcome should be certain. Instead, it is a crap shoot.
