Health care: Look overseas for reform models

It seems that Congress is struggling to come up with a healthcare plan to replace Obamacare. It need not be so difficult.

We are continually hearing about other developed countries which have better systems than ours. They enjoy greater longevity, lower infant mortality, and a lower cost per person. Among the countries often mentioned are Switzerland, Sweden and Canada. There are many others.

What Congress needs to do is study the various healthcare plans around the world that enjoy better outcomes at lower cost. It should then select the one that it believes will work best in this country and adopt it without change.

Any modifications that are later needed can be implemented based upon our actual experience. If Congress were to focus on what has proven to be successful, rather than attempting to satisfy the various competing ideologies, perhaps then the American people could have the healthcare system they deserve.
