Trucks: Enforce engine brake noise

An open letter to the Washington State Patrol and maybe the Pierce County Sheriff: I have an opportunity for you to make some quick, easy citations and help out the citizens of Summit View.

Station one of your officers at the westbound exit at state Route 512 and Canyon Road anytime — noon, midnight, 3 a.m. 6 p.m., whenever — to enforce the posted law about use of engine brakes, especially the unmuffled ones.

The noise is loud enough to rattle windows and wake people who live a quarter mile away.

I will thank you, and the neighbors will, too.

And hey you, the trucker operating the really loud truck at 4 a.m.: Hopefully this reaches you, too.
