Dress code: Girls should boycott immodest clothing

Re: "Puyallup High students protest against dress code," (TNT, 5/22).

How is the dress code sexist? Do male students regularly attend classes in shorts and tube tops? Do they wear off-the-shoulder blouses or shirts unbuttoned down to their navels?

No, they usually cover up with jeans and T-shirts. How is it unfair to require the girls to dress at least as modestly as the boys?

Have you ever noticed that actors at the Oscars look comfortable and dignified in their black tuxedos? Meanwhile, many actresses mince around in gowns so immodest they have to use glue to keep them from falling off.

Male lawyers, doctors and businessmen wear conservative suits, while their female counterparts are forced too often to choose between mini-skirts or tight pants.

Instead of protesting common sense rules, the girls ought to protest so-called "designers" who dress women like sex objects or toddlers at the beach.

Boycott immodest clothing! Especially those ugly blouses with the holes in the shoulders. Not only are these fashions unflattering to most women, they are literally and financially a rip-off.
