Lunch shaming: Schools condone form of bullying
Re: “’Lunch shaming’ activist erasing Tacoma school debts,” (TNT, 5/21).
What a wonderful idea to help these students. Kudos to Jeff Lew for raising funds to pay off their lunch bills.
The issue I want to address is not the help these students have received, but what the schools are doing to the children. That’s not shaming; it is bullying. These children are being singled out for ridicule. Bullying in the school system is against the law.
I hope parents get a clue and start paying for their childrens’ lunches if they are financially able to do so, but I’d also like to see schools who do this punished and “shamed.”
