TPU: Don’t brand fired director as ‘divisive’
Re: “Divisive Tacoma utilities director Gaines retiring,” (TNT, 8/8).
This headline brings a new low for news reporting. The front-page article cites differences of opinion among utility board members and by at least one City Council member concerning the director. While such differences may be healthy, public attacks of the man are in bad taste.
What determines who is the “divisive” party in this dispute? Certainly there is an argument that taxpayer funds shouldn’t be used to prop up millions of dollars lost by the Click operation.
