Taxes: Reform must help those at bottom
I see that President Trump wants to re-write the tax code. Yes, we certainly need tax reform, but reform for whom?
As proposed in Trump’s budget, his tax cuts would essentially be paid for by $4.3 trillion in cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, education, infrastructure and other vital services.
Half of these tax cuts would go to the richest 1 percent, who would each get an annual tax cut of $175,000 on average. Twenty five percent of middle-income families would actually pay higher taxes under his plan.
Our voice can make a difference. We can call the Tacoma offices of U.S. Senators Patty Murray (253-572-3636) and Maria Cantwell (253-572-2281).
Let their aides know that tax reform bills must be at least revenue neutral, won’t make wealth inequality worse and won’t put core anti-poverty programs at risk.
