Comics: Satire has always defined strip

Re: “Comics: Nothing funny about Doonesbury, (TNT letter, 9/12).

The author’s main complaint is that “Today, we find the comic section is a place for political satire. I refer of course to Doonesbury.”

Doonesbury has been political since I first started seeing it 30 or 40 years ago. Granted, as a kid I wasn’t interested, so I just skipped over that one, as the author of the subject letter is welcome to do.

So, Doonesbury hasn’t suddenly become political, but rather has been that way for 47 years.
