Protests: Feeling offended is exactly the point
Since Sunday’s games, I have heard many people who were irate over the 200-plus NFL players that either kneeled or chose to remain off the field during the national anthem.
I understand that many citizens felt offended by the players’ display of free speech; however, that’s the point. Their actions were meant to highlight the offense they feel on matters of equality in the justice system and especially pertaining to police brutality.
It is not the speech you agree with that you have to worry about protecting; it is the speech you disagree with. Because if you only worry about points of view you support, sooner or later nobody will protect any type of speech or action. And then nobody will have free speech at all.
