Freedom Fair: Airshow sadly fizzles to nothing

I’ve lived above Tacoma’s Ruston Way waterfront for over 20 years and have sadly watched our Freedom Fair celebration become less and less each year.

I was shocked to read a one-line sentence in The News Tribune that there would not be an air show this year.

Before federal budget restrictions, Tacoma had a proud military-themed air show every 4th of July that showed off our amazing local JBLM aircraft and the dedicated teams that fly and maintain these impressive machines.

After those budget cuts, it could only showcase entertaining stunt and historic aircraft.

This year no air show; just two flybys with smoke trails.

With military budget increases, and President Trump funding military parades, a proud military community like Tacoma should have opportunity for its service members to participate in our Freedom Fair airshow.
