Drivers license: Fees for enhanced ID too steep
Re: “Changes coming to standard Washington licenses and IDs,” (TNT, 6/28).
My wife just had her license renewed and came home complaining of the six-year license cost of $54. The enhanced license for the same period is $78 and requires proof of citizenship.
I would like to have an enhanced license when my current one expires, but I can’t think of a reason that justifies the additional expense for officials to view my birth certificate or passport and charge me an extra $24 so I can comply with the 2005 federal Real ID law.
The Legislature should review these license fees make them reasonable, especially for those of us on fixed income.
