Gun control: Word play shoots both ways

Re: ”Gun safety: NRA plays games with semantics” (TNT letter, 7/6).

The letter writer claims semantics are used when "gun safety' laws are called gun control. She is the one misusing words. Gun safety pertains to how guns are used safely, and the training one has to use a gun safely.

Gun control laws control who may own a gun, how old one must be, how many cartridges it can hold, where one can have a gun, etc. These requirements have little, if anything to do with safety, but are all about controlling guns, by controlling people's access to them.

Too many people have died because of 'gun free' zones, one of the most despicable gun control laws. This only guarantees that only the criminal has a gun, and the law abiding are disarmed.
