Senate election: Stick to issues, stop mudslinging
The primary elections are being held soon, so it is time for the mudslinging. Republicans have resorted to name calling and fearmongering to discredit the campaign of Emily Randall for the Washington State Senate, 26th District.
They do this instead of addressing the vital issues she has raised in her campaign. Randall’s policy positions are reasoned responses to the needs of her constituents and reflect their values. These include effective support for strong public schools.
Concerned that the 59 percent vote in the Peninsula School District bond issue was not sufficient to secure its passage, Randall supports changing the law so that a simple majority would pass such measures. Republican opposition helped to derail the bond.
Randall expects our government to respect the rights of all citizens to equal treatment under the law.
Republicans who are not offended by President Trump’s sexism, racism, cruelty and corruption are in no moral position to claim some spurious moral ground with respect to Randall or anyone else.
It is time for them to stop clutching their pearls and engage seriously with Randall on the issues.
