Embattled politician: Sawyer, supporters not trustworthy
Re: “We endorse: Morgan to replace embattled House incumbent Sawyer,” (TNT, 7/18).
State Rep. David Sawyer sexually harassed multiple women. He has also turned a deaf ear to the community he works within.
As the state committee woman for Legislative District 29, I wrote a resolution asking Sawyer to step down and bow out of reelection. The district Democrats committee voted and passed it. He did not acknowledge or even address those wishes.
He has been asked to step down by multiple organizations, by multiple political colleagues. He has ignored all of it. With this behavior he has shown he does not have the best interests of his constituents at heart, his own ego is what drives him.
Sawyer will not admit that he has done harm to women. He was informed multiple times of his behavior and did nothing to correct it.
His actions might have been correctable but his arrogance isn’t. You cannot fix a problem if you won’t acknowledge it exists.
The Democrats who still back him are proving to the voters that we still cannot trust our leaders to do what is right over what is beneficial to them.
