Politics: There’s no traffic in center lane

Re: “FBI agent in probe kicks back at GOP,” (TNT, 7/13).

The congressional hearing involving agent Peter Strzok was a testament to our collective interest in cleaning house in Congress.

Strzok’s text messages about former candidate Donald Trump likely speak to each of us in a positive or negative way depending on how we feel about the underlying subject. I am not herein commenting on those messages.

But the display of animus between the congressmen during the hearing is worthy of comment. It was disgusting. Republicans and Democrats should hang their heads in shame.

As I commiserated with a friend of over 50 years, he summed it up perfectly when he said “Murph, I’m driving down my lane pretty close to the political center and there ain’t much traffic here.”

I responded, “Ronnie, I’m in that same lane with you and it is wide enough for both of us.”

Civil discourse will not happen as long as we keep sending the same people, bent on vitriol, to represent us.

There is plenty of room near the center. Let us seek it out.
