Blue Wave: Credit challenger in 28th for success

Re: “Bad behavior, dirty election ads rejected as Blue Wave rolls,” (TNT editorial, 8/9).

Your editorial claims: “One of the clearest signs the Blue Wave has arrived is a dramatic reversal in the 28th District. Rep. Dick Muri, R-Steilacoom, heads toward the Nov. 6 runoff seven points down to Democrat Mari Leavittt.”

This doesn’t begin to tell the story. It is true that voters recognize that Republicans have not improved health care, housing or jobs.

But Leavitt won because of Leavitt herself. She has a superbly well-organized campaign, she’s worked hard to meet and listen to voters throughout the district, and she has experience, expertise and values that fit the district perfectly.

She grew up in a military family, has lived here many years, co-owns a small business, has been a leader in K-12 education, has worked in area colleges to help students succeed and has served as deputy director of Pierce County Human Services to help people to solve numerous challenges.

She won the primary because of her impressive history and her energy, both of which will serve us well in the Legislature.
