Media bias: Editorial proves president’s point
Re: “Mr. President, end your war on free press,” (TNT/McClatchy editorial, 8/16).
There could be no clearer evidence of unhinged media bias against President Trump than this editorial.
It compared Trump’s criticism of “fake news” in the press to the actions of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao — dictators who ordered the murders of millions of people.
Such an outrageously false equivalence invalidated whatever criticism the president’s remarks might have actually warranted.
Equally false was the editorial’s attempt to connect President Trump’s rhetoric to the June murders of five employees at The Capital Gazette in Annapolis.
Per the New York Times on 7/2/18, the shooter in that incident “had a years long legal dispute with The Capital over a 2011 column that detailed his harassment of a former high school classmate.” So such violence had absolutely no link to anything said by Trump.
The president has done nothing to infringe on freedom of the press, and has the same right to criticize the press as they have to criticize him.
If the press wants to take a stand against false and exaggerated criticism, they should first look in the mirror.
