John McCain: Too bad such intergrity is rare

Why do we call Sen. John McCain a maverick? Is it because he stood up to power and told his truth?

I would hope all politicians would be people of integrity who puts country before their own needs. It is a sad state of affairs when we have an honest politician, who has always put his country first, being called a maverick.

I look forward to the day that a political maverick is the rare one who lets lobbyists have his or her vote. What a difference that would make — body politics doing what is best for the country.

I am a lifelong Democrat and disagreed with many of McCain’s policies, but I always held him in high regard for his integrity and commitment to country.

His death has shown what a small man we have in the White House. I know this dark political period will pass. We need more politicians like McCain to move us through this period as a country.
