John McCain: Local vets lose a kindred spirit
Friday gatherings at the Poodle Dog Restaurant in Fife used to bring some dozen guys to have lunch and share their experiences.
Some were Republican, others Democrat. All served in our country’s military during 1955 through the 1960s and ranked from private first class to rear admiral.
Often our voices ranged from outrage to kind commentary, but whether profane or graceful, we listened to one another.
Most interesting were our political views of the day and reminiscing about our time spent in the military. We rallied around our service to country which often lead to the topic of outstanding service by Sen. John McCain.
Before his second run for president, we all said he’s the guy for the job. Indeed, he was a hero to us and could speak to both sides of the aisle.
He was our mutual tread that ran between us as veterans. Above all, he was an American.
Today we pray for his immediate family and bless him as a patriot in service to America. As a former Marine and for my fellow countrymen and women, I close with what is true: John McCain, you’ve gone home.
