Liberals: Lost opportunity to stop global warming
It is with frustration that the blue summer sky that should be framing the stellar white-capped Mount Rainier off in the distance is no longer an experience to be enjoyed during the summer months in the Puget Sound.
I feel dislodged from my native place, Tacoma. It seems this is now the norm with more and more stands of timber in our state ablaze due to prolonged dry periods, caused by global warming and a shift in weather patterns.
Global warming and the degradation of the environment were given growing attention in the 1980s and ’90s. I remember the urgency to create awareness about the importance of protecting our environment with TV specials such as the Earth Day Special in 1990 and a series of “Captain Planet” cartoons to keep me entertained.
Much of this was championed by liberals. But they squandered the momentum, and the urgency of climate change took a back seat to other cause celebre issues, such as promoting abortion and curtailing gun rights.
I blame the modern liberal movement for these serial crummy summers in the Puget Sound.
