Climate change: Electric cars, carbon pricing helpful

Re: “The cents and sensibility of electric cars,” (TNT editorial, 8/22).

Thank you for your recent coverage on the thick wildfire smoke, along with this eye-opening editorial. They’re related : Reduce emissions, reduce the wildfires and smoke.

I’m thankful Gov. Jay Inslee is expanding electric-charging infrastructure to make electric vehicle ownership easier. Tacoma Public Utilities is also working on encouraging EV trials and purchase. Let’s clean air and get more than 33,000 EVs!

But the most effective solution to reducing emissions, according to most experts, is to put a price on carbon. Initiative 1631 would do that in our state and move us closer to what’s really needed: a national, revenue-neutral carbon fee that will accelerate the transition to clean energy.

Putting a price on carbon means people who choose going greener also get some green back in their pockets.
