War on terror: Tacoma councilman serves honorably
September 11 came and went this year. While acknowledging the events of that horrific day, my thoughts turned to Robert Thoms. He serves with me on the Tacoma City Council, or should I say, served with me earlier this year.
Now, Robert serves us all in the U.S. military stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan fighting the war on terror. He has been gone since March and is to return home to Tacoma this fall, God willing.
Robert has witnessed death and destruction of the war being waged there by the Taliban. Recently more than nine journalists were killed there by a terrorist bomb blast - only hours after Robert, as the communications officer, had briefed them.
They died a few hundred yards away from his location.
Robert and those serving with him are strong, brave and dedicated to our protection. Let’s all say a prayer for the safe return of this very good and honorable patriot. And when he does return, let’s go out of our way to thank him for his service.
