Golf course: Don’t overlook Lakewood seniors

“Pierce County wisely cuts losses on golf course, (TNT editorial, 9/13).

The senior citizens and physically handicapped of Lakewood want to be outside and active. By closing Fort Steilacoom Golf Course , the county is depriving these groups from enjoying a physical outing, the enjoyment of other’s company and friendly competition.

Yes, we have Meadow Park and Oakbrook golf courses, but both are too long and difficult for seniors. Oakbrook is too expensive and Spanaway Lake is too far away.

Lakewood has done much — playgrounds, parks, baseball and soccer fields for its young citizens — but little for its senior citizens.

Senior centers are fine for sitting and playing cards and low-impact exercise classes, but they don’t get you out in the beautiful Northwest environment.

Lakewood does not have public swimming pools, public tennis courts, bocci ball, lawn bowling or shuffleboard courts.

Please think of all the citizens of Lakewood and give them the opportunity to lead a full and active life.
