Presidential primary: Moving it just a feel-good plan

There is a bill in the Legislature that would move the Washington state presidential primary up to March to make us more relevant somehow.

A primary that Democrats historically haven’t used in picking candidates. A primary in which Republicans will choose a candidate and somehow send delegates to the convention, from a state that ‘s unlikely to add many Electoral College votes for a Republican

As if Washington is in play and voters could be swayed in a state that will remain untouchably blue.

I suppose there is the thought that somehow our Democratic governor would get publicity votes in his expected run for president, whereas he would likely drop out by the time of the current primary date in late May. And the Democrats could just bump up their candidate-selecting caucuses.

I guess it really doesn’t matter in which month you spend the $9 million on a primary. But any thought that we would be relevant and garner serious attention by presidential candidates is a pipe dream.
