Car tabs: Ferguson defend them? You can’t be serious
“Voters should trust state AG to fight for $30 car tabs,” (TNT editorial, 11/24).
Initiative 976 will fail on Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s watch because he will not risk alienating his base over really defending it. He clearly has aspirations for higher office and knows his future depends on King County.
Yes, there will be high-sounding talking points from him (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), but the legal pretense upon which Ferguson will capitulate has no doubt already been identified by his office, as have “progressive” judges who share his distaste for the clear will of the people.
This has nothing to do with the legality of I-976. It was written by lawyers who were well aware that the “progressive” judiciary in this state would attempt to find any minute reason to overturn it. It’s all about ideology from here on out.
No, Ferguson cannot claim the high ground here. He has been openly partisan since his election, and no one should expect he will give a real defense of the will of the people.
Adios, I-976.
