Unions: Beware deceptive tactics by labor bashers

Re: “Era ends for public-sector union fees,” (TNT editorial, 12/4).

When the names and email addresses of City of Tacoma employees were released under the Freedom of Information Act, no one knew how this information was going to be used.

I was one of those employees whose information was released. In June, I received an email addressed to my employee email address.

It told me of my rights under the Janus Supreme Court ruling, that I no longer could be forced to have union membership dues deducted from my wages without my express permission, and that my employment did not require union membership.

The signature block indicated this letter came from my union local. This was a lie. It came from an organization closely related to the Freedom Foundation.

I contacted the state Attorney General’s Office about this deceptive email. They refused to act on my inquiry of the use of a false signature.

There are legal limits to how released information can be used by the requestor. In my case, those limits were violated.
