Unions: Labor-bashing group engages in doublespeak

Re: “Until unions full obey law, the fight will go on,” (TNT, 12/6).

There are a lot of misleading statements in this opinion piece by the Freedom Foundation, so I’ll focus on one whopper: that the organization is working for nothing more than “simple fairness.” This is laughably false.

It’s well documented that the group is trying to destroy unions in Washington to help elect right-wing, anti-union candidates. We have many examples of their leadership stating this mission but I’ll focus on one.

On Aug. 31, 2015, the group sent a fundraising email signed by CEO Tom McCabe who described their “most aggressive push in twenty years to take back the Pacific Northwest (from left-wing radicals) ...”

This partisan mission violates their tax-exempt non-profit status, and you’d be hard pressed to find it on their emails to union members.

Their doublespeak is just one reason their campaign is failing and why the TNT Editorial Board was right to say that unions will continue to be a strong force in the wake of the Janus decision.
