Art tax: Misplaced priorities on display in Tacoma

Re: “Early chunk of art tax money starts to make impact in community,” (TNT,12/30).

Tacoma faces a plethora of financial challenges: the cost of hungry and homeless people, public school class sizes, law enforcement manpower, pothole repairs, etc.

Nevertheless, this fair city will apparently spend a whopping $6 million a year through its Office of Arts and Cultural Vitality.

My family shops often in Tacoma, and it is a sobering thought that our increased sales taxes will fund things like ukulele classes.
