Christmas spirit: A stranger’s generosity felt deeply
Since the person who was so kind to me on Christmas Eve is a stranger, I am hoping she will see my letter.
I am 87, use a cane, hate shopping, but had lots of company coming at Christmas, so had a full grocery cart. The woman ahead of me offered to help unload my cart. We exchanged pleasant conversation, said “Merry Christmas,” and she went on her way.
As I started to pay, the clerk said, “I have a surprise for you. The woman who just left gave me $100 to apply to your bill.”
I don’t know whether she is Republican or Democrat, believer or non-believer, rich or poor, but I know she shared the true meaning of Christmas.
I gave her gift to a program that helps people less fortunate than I. But the gift of her kindness will stay with me always.
Happy New Year!
