Trump Republicans: Four words that sum them up

Re: “Nancy Pelosi is losing leverage by the day,” (TNT, 1/5).

Sniffing disdainfully at House Democrats for suspending delivery of their completed articles of impeachment to the Senate, Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen consumes a sizable block of print space alluding to Mitch McConnell’s derisive laughter and the ridiculousness of the assertion that President Trump obstructed Congress.

He then solemnly, if graphically, suggests that the House speaker “has essentially put a gun to her own head and threatened to shoot.”

Evidently possessing only a tenuous acquaintance with top-notch writers’ unspoken commitment to lean composition, Thiessen pads, packs and promulgates to capacity an indignant-sounding thesis spun throughout what should have been a very short, very simple essay.

I shall cut directly to the final four words of his column: “Republicans couldn’t care less.”

There you have it! A more distilled and sweeping summary of Trump Republican attitudes, ideals, strategies and policies I have yet to read.
