Sea-Tac: Local branding asset should be defended

Re: “New SEA name for Sea-Tac Airport no big deal for Tacoma,” (TNT, 1/26).

Columnist Matt Driscoll has been a much-needed breath of fresh air at our local paper, but he really misses the mark here.

Sea-Tac Airport is where it is because Tacoma paid in.

With Speaker or the House Laurie Jinkins, House Transportation Committee chair Jake Fey and Sen. Jeannie Darneille, Tacoma has all the weight we need to make sure the kibosh on this logo change is sure.

Even if travelers know Seattle but not Tacoma, the name “Sea-Tac” begs the question and draws attention our way.

And why throw our sister city of SeaTac under the bus by undermining the very cause for its municipal name?

To recommend throwing in the towel on one historic asset that Tacoma paid for is mind-numbingly shortsighted.

Tom McCarthy, Tacoma
