Soccer stadium: Not a priority for average Tacomans
“$22 million in public funds proposed to build new soccer stadium,” (TNT, 2/6).
Thank you, Tacoma City Council member Chris Beale, for being the voice of reason and the heart of citizens in response to the letter of intent that the City Council, Metro Parks and Soccer Club of Tacoma are passing around behind our backs.
Beale called the proposed stadium “a nice item to have, but not an essential thing when we’re looking at what we’re dealing with in the community.”
Another front page TNT story one day earlier gave a snapshot of a recent Tacoma community survey.
It outlined what should be the City Council’s main objectives – addressing homelessness, crime, traffic and overpopulation concerns – instead of spending at least $15 million in city taxpayers’ money on a new stadium.
It’s time for our representatives to heed what the public wants, instead of developers.
