Kobe Bryant: Don’t lose sight of real heroes

Superstar Kobe Bryant received worldwide media attention and bold-print front page headlines. The sports world mourned his death. However, eight other people died in the same crash.

Compare it to a Jan. 12 article in the TNT (”2 US service members killed in Afghanistan”) that received small-print coverage.

Bryant’s death was an accident; he wasn’t killed or maimed fighting for our freedom in foreign countries that hate America and aspire to kill us all.

He wasn’t killed arresting a criminal to keep us safe from violence, drugs or human trafficking. He wasn’t attacked or spit upon while trying to enforce the law. He didn’t die rushing into a burning building to save lives.

Bryant earned millions from contracts and endorsements for shooting baskets, free-throws, three-pointers, setting records and winning tournaments. He played basketball – that’s all!

It is American soldiers and public safety workers who deserve our foremost recognition and highest acclaim. They are the real heroes.
