School taxes: K-12 should be cut by one grade

“Pierce County school growth means more requests for tax money,” (TNT, 2/23).

As a senior citizen on a fixed income, I am shocked at the total disregard for us. There is a consistently voracious appetite for feeding the beast.

Not once have I heard how schools have cut back on programs and positions. I was also shocked to learn that those who don’t pay property taxes could vote to raise them; that’s inconsistent and illogical.

I would like to suggest a cost-cutting program of moving senior high school students to local community colleges.

Being on those campuses would provide daily access to tech programs and college classes. Let the high schools teach grades 9 through 11 and let the seniors enter the real world by earning credits and gaining workplace skills.

When we know better, we do better. It’s time to reduce K-12 by removing the 12.
