Airlines: Attach strings to any bailout package
US taxpayers are now facing the probability of another airline bailout by the federal government. It is only fair that if we are expected to fund this bailout, we have some very significant conditions for ongoing treatment of the American public by the airline industry.
We should condition any tax-funded bailout on not allowing charges for the first two checked bags, for seat selection, for lavatory usage and for reservation change or cancellation fees.
There should be more strict regulation of flight cancellations made solely to maximize airline profits. A regulation of a minimum passenger seat size would be a great idea also.
Airlines have made billions at the expense of extra fees levied on the American public. It is time for taxpayers to enjoy fairer treatment from the airline industry.
Taxpayers should consider contacting their senators and representatives about this as soon as possible.
