Congress: Do more to stop evictions, hunger

Who is suffering the most from this pandemic? Our neighbors with no job, no food and no money for rent. Without help they could quickly face hunger, eviction, even homelessness.

As Congress works on “Phase 4” COVID-19 legislation, here are three requests: (1) Allocate $100 billion for emergency rental assistance. Our own Rep. Denny Heck has introduced this bill.

(2) Enact a national moratorium on evictions.

(3) Increase Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits by 15% until the economic crisis passes. The Washington state delegation is on board with SNAP changes.

I strongly urge Congress to promptly pass “Phase 4” COVID-19 measures to help struggling workers and families secure stable housing and keep families fed during this economic crisis and beyond.
